Goodreads Synopsis:

Seventeen-year-old Tessa McCaide has come a long way since her abrupt entrance into the world of werewolves, but she still has just as far to go before she’s comfortable with turning full wolf. In the meantime, she’s avoiding the topic of shifting to four legs any way she can. Thankfully her mate, Dastien Laurent, is quite the distraction.

When she finds her best friend, Meredith, getting sick in the bathroom, Tessa knows something’s majorly wrong. Meredith was cursed years ago, and the dark magic kept her wolf dormant—only now the wolf is awake, and that same spell is killing her.
Tessa has no intention of sitting around while Meredith wastes away. Even if it means playing with magic she doesn’t understand, she’ll do anything to save Meredith’s life. Including bargaining with the local coven of witches and its crazed leader, whose only goal is getting Tessa to join the witchy ranks.
Can Tessa save her friend without losing herself?

Book Review:
Pre-reading Thoughts:

I really enjoyed the first book in this series. It was a little something that I was used to. Tessa presented herself as a strong character who would fight for the people who she cared for and that she wouldn't let anyone interfere with her beliefs. I am definitely intrigued to see how the story continues.

Thank you so much to Xpresso Book Tours for providing me with a copy of this book. Just a small disclaimer for those reading this review. I have received this for free. Please note that this does not affect my opinion in any way. All thoughts are my own.

Writing Thoughts:

I found the writing in this book a lot easier to read. The pacing was a lot smoother but I found myself just wanting a bit more when it came to the detail.

Plot Thoughts:

I loved how we got to see how Tessa needed to use her Bruja powers in this book. It allowed us answers to questions we had in the previous book. It felt a little short but it was filled with tension and action moments that really capture your attention. I was really happy to see that the book almost followed directly after the previous one but not without a couple of days leeway.

Character Thoughts:

I felt like we got see the less than perfect Tessa in this book. We got to see how she was struggling with the choices she had to make and the weight that is placed on her shoulders. We also got to see how she rose from the ashes. I loved how she didn't really do it on her own. She had help from those around her.

Final Thoughts:

Overall, I really enjoyed the book. I loved how it continues after the first. I also like how we could see some improvement from the author. The writing was a lot easier and the pacing worked out a lot better. The plot answered some of our questions but it also did a good job of posing new ones. This book was a lot of about forging and enforcing Tessa's relationships with certain characters and it really worked well. I loved how we got to see a glimpse of who will stick by her side and who will not. Overall, I can't wait for the next book. Thank you so much to Xpresso Book Tours for providing me with a copy of this book to review.

Yours in Reading,

Melleny
