Goodreads Synopsis:

Most days, Elea couldn't care less about being a witch, even if she does have special powers over spirit and bone. Why bother with incantations when you're a farm girl? Elea only uses her Necromancer magic to speed up chores and scare of suitors.

Everything changes when the evil Necromancer Tsar curses Elea. Now, she only has five years left before she runs as a ghost, tortured for all eternity. They say there's nothing she can do, but Elea disagrees. Embracing her Necromancer ability, Elea trains as a magical assassin. Her goal? Kill the Tsar before his curse kills her. After years of preparation, Elea's finally ready to strike.

That's when everything goes horrible wrong.

A handsome warlock named Rowan steps up to help. Elea wants him as an ally, but she can't ignore the mixed-up feelings that come with everyone of Rowan's crooked smiles. An assassination mission is no time to fall in love, but Elea's heart may hove other ideas...

Book Review:
Pre-reading Thoughts:

I have no idea what to expect of this story. I had signed up for this review opportunity through Xpresso Book Tours a while ago and honestly I remember nothing in terms of what this book is actually about. But I am still extremely excited to start this really incredibly looking series. Also Christina Bauer is pretty incredible. She runs her own publishing company and she already has a couple of books out. She is so cool! And I cannot wait to read on of her works. Thank you to Xpresso Book Tours for sending me a copy of this book. Please note that in no way has receiving this book affected my opinion. All thoughts are my own.

Writing Thoughts:

The writing in this book wasn't too bad. It did take me a while to get into the writing. The books was easy to understand and I had no problem with the structure of the sentences and the writing style. The writing wasn't too detailed but in the case of this book I wished that it was mainly because it was a new world and you couldn't actually pinpoint the time that was used as an inspiration. But other than that, the writing was enjoyable.

Plot Thoughts:

The plot was interesting enough but only to a point. Everything felt repetitive after a while. I found some parts of this book entertaining and that spurred me on to read. I think that this might have only been me, but there were a couple clichés in this book that just weren't well done. Usually I love clichés but I think that there could've been less.

Character Thoughts:

I really didn't like this main character, she just felt a little... I don't know what the right word for this is but she just didn't feel right. I found the other characters to be quite pleasant, especially the little girl Ada that we meet.

Final Thoughts:

Overall, I found that this book was average. Nothing stood out for me and nothing was bad. It just wasn't a story for me I guess. However, I will be reading the next book in this series mainly because I signed up for a review opportunity for both books. I hope that the second book gets better. Once again, thank you to Xpresso Book Tours for sending me a copy of this book.

Yours in Reading,

Melleny
