Goodreads Synopsis:

As a Grand Mistress Necromancer, Elea's a witch who commands the ultimate power over spirit and bone. It's magic that she'll need in order to stop the Vicomte Gaspard from killing her Sisters by draining their magic along with their life force.

To find and free her fellow witches, Elea must venture into some of the most dangerous places in the realm. What starts off as a rescue quest could easily turn into a suicide mission. And with the handsome warlock Rowan along to help, Elea may be risking more than her life. Her growing feelings for Rowan put her heart on the line, too.

Book Review:
Pre-reading Thoughts:

I didn't really enjoy the first book in this series. I found that the storyline was quite average. I hope that this book is a lot better. If you would like to see my thoughts on the first book, you can find that review here. I'm ready to see what happens in this book. I have received this book from Xpresso Book Tours for a review opportunity. Please note that in no way has receiving this book affected my opinion. All thoughts are my own.

Writing Thoughts:

The writing in this book still contained a slow paced but you could see that the author had developed in her writing. The pace was faster than in the first books and the words just seemed to fit together better. Overall I was way more impressed with the writing, it kept me turning the pages.

Plot Thoughts:

This book was way better and way more interesting than the first book. There were still somethings that I found boring and redundant but they were fewer than the first book. There were also somethings that had me rushing to turn the page. There was definitely some smaller and bigger twists in this book. It was way less predictable than the first one.

Character Thoughts:

Whilst I don't particularly like the main character, Elea, my heart still broke for her. And I applaud the author for making me feel this way for a character that I don't like. Rowan, a character that I particularly liked, definitely disappointed me. I expected more from him.

Philippe is a new character in this book, he was interesting and intriguing. I'm interested in seeing where this character fits in at the end.

Final Thoughts:

Overall, I found this book way better than the first one. I still don't know if I will read the next one but I am glad that the story picked up in this book. I might continue the series at a later stage but other than that, I have enjoyed this series so far. The author has definitely developed and so has her characters. I am impressed with the progress that this story has made. Thank you to Xpresso Book Tours for providing me a copy of this book!

Yours in Reading,

Melleny
