Book Review:
Pre-reading Thoughts:
The cover and the synopsis of this book intrigued me because they both promise an epic story. Due to that reason, I cannot wait to start this book.
Thank you so much to Xpresso Tours for providing me with a copy of this book. Just a quick disclaimer for those reading this review, I have received this book for free. Please note that this does not affect my opinions in any way. All thoughts are my own.
Writing Thoughts:
The writing felt like it was intended to shock the reader. I wasn't shocked by how dark the writing was but I did enjoy it. It helped to set up the atmosphere which was dark and full of magic and in some cases gore.
Plot Thoughts:
The plot was incredible. It pulled me in right away with its dark elements. The book starts with a bang and also ends with one. I found that there was never a dull moment and it urged me to read the book more and more because I needed to know what happened next. I loved how the author gave us a taste of everything we wanted when it came to possible love interests. And whilst I loved the ending, I felt as if it was too similar to something that I've read before.
Character Thoughts:
Scar is a complex character with a traumatic past that left a mark on her. Throughout the book we see her past coming back to haunt her and we also see Scar dealing with the terrors that it brings with the memory of it. I liked this aspect because it made her more accessible and realistic.
Final Thoughts:
Overall, I enjoyed the book. The writing was dark and atmosphere but it lacked the shock factor I was expecting. The plot was amazing and well thought out but I felt as if the ending sounded a little too much like another book that I'd read before. The characters were complex but Scar was accessible and made this book for me. I am very intrigued to see what happens next. Thank you so much to Xpresso Tours for providing me with a copy of this book!
