Book Review:
Pre-reading Thoughts:

This book looks so short, but so interesting. When the author sent me the synopsis for the book, I was hesitant at first because I had so many books to review already. But I just couldn't deny that this story would be something good and something that I just couldn't not read. So needless to say, I am so excited to jump into this one!

Thank you so much to the author, L.S. Johnson, for sending me a copy of her book! Just a quick disclaimer for those reading this review. I have received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. No money, on my behalf, was spent in acquiring this book. Please note that this does not affect my opinion in any way. All thoughts are my own.

Writing Thoughts:

The writing in this book was good. It took me a while to get used to mainly because I had just read a middle grade novel. But I felt as if the writing reflected the tone of the time quite well. I felt as if the author was a little too short of descriptions which made it difficult for me to envision the surroundings. One moment everything was vivid and then next it was blurry. I also felt as if there wasn't enough character descriptions as I couldn't really 'see' what the characters looked like. But other than that, there was enough dialogue and the overall righting was quite pleasant.

Plot Thoughts:

The concept of this book was interesting. The plot was well fleshed out a majority of the time but there was one or two places where I felt as if the story was being rushed. But overall, the story was highly entertaining and had constant tension that kept growing until the climax of the story. The plot was also very easy to follow which I thought was great especially since I would stop and do something else for a while.

Character Thoughts:

The characters in this book, despite the shortness of it, were well rounded. The main character was able to stand on her own and several of the other characters were able to do the same. There was probably one or two things that I liked about the characters but other than that, I didn't really end up connecting with them in the end. The lack of connection had more to do with me though than the actual book. I thought that the characters had several accessible and relatable moments.

Final Thoughts:

Overall, I really enjoyed the story. I can't wait to see what else the author has in store for the next book. The writing in this book felt true to the time in which the story took place and whilst there was a lack of description the witty dialogue won me over time and time again. I thought that the plot was interesting and several key moments that made me want more. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to connect with the characters as much as I had hoped but definitely think that others will be able to. Thank you so much to the author for providing me with a copy to review! Can't wait to read more about Caroline
