It should have taken Juliette a single touch to kill Warner. But his mysterious immunity to her deadly power has left her shaken, wondering why her ultimate defense mechanism failed against the person she most needs protection from.

She and Adam were able to escape Warner’s clutches and join up with a group of rebels, many of whom have powers of their own. Juliette will finally be able to actively fight against The Reestablishment and try to fix her broken world. And perhaps these new allies can help her shed light on the secret behind Adam’s—and Warner’s—immunity to her killer skin.

Book Review:
Pre-Reading Thoughts:

I am really excited to get to this book. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed Shatter Me (you can find that review here) and now I am eagerly anticipating the start of this book.

Thank you so much to Penguin Random House South Africa for providing me with a copy of this book. Just a small disclaimer for those reading this book. I have received this for free. Please note that this does not affect my opinion in any way. All thoughts are my own.

Writing Thoughts:

The pacing of the writing at the beginning of this book was amazing. It was fast paced but at the moment where you needed to take note of something, it slowed down only to pick up again. Towards the end of the novel, things did slow down quite a lot. It was slowed so much that it felt like everything was dragging just a little bit. However, despite this, the dialogue was charged with emotions, the writing ensured that I kept consuming this book because I just couldn't see myself coming up for air anytime soon.

Plot Thoughts:

I really enjoyed the plot especially since it broke my heart into a million pieces. I literally felt how my heart was aching. However, I really enjoyed how things continued to build from that point. It allowed the reader to see how Juliette grew from the previous novel. I loved how that was the focus of the novel as well as the expiration of her powers. The plot was the perfect combination of heartbreak, swoon moments and action.

Character Thoughts:

I have one thing to say; Warner. Okay, maybe I have two. I loved how we got to see how Juliette's development changed the people around her and how the people around her were changing her.

Final Thoughts:

Overall, this book blew me out of the park. It was just incredible. I loved the writing that kept me reading, the plot that both broke my heart and mended it and the characters that showed just how influential one action can be. Thank you so much to Penguin Random House South Africa for providing me with a copy of this book. I don't know how ready I am for the next book but I guess time will tell.

Yours in Reading,
Melleny
