Goodreads Synopsis:

With harpoons strapped to their backs, the proud whales of Bathsheba's pod live for the hunt, fighting in the ongoing war against the world of men. When they attack a ship bobbing on the surface of the Abyss, they expect to find easy prey. Instead, they find the trail of a myth, a monster, perhaps the devil himself...

As their relentless Captain leads the chase, they embark on a final, vengeful hunt, one that will forever change the worlds of both whales and men.

Book Review:
Pre-reading Thoughts:

I have yet to read a Patrick Ness book. I know, it is awful but I have been meaning to read one and it just so happens that I am very excited for this book. I think that the premise is super interesting and I really want to see if Ness can pull this off.

Thank you so much to Pan Macmillan South Africa for providing me with an incredible sampler of this book! Just a quick disclaimer for those reading this review. I have received this book for free. Please note that this does not affect my opinion in any way. All thoughts are my own.

Final Thoughts:

Overall, I really like the premise. I think that it holds promise. I am a bit confused with some of the mechanics but hopefully, as the story progress, more of it is explained. I do think that having Bathsheba reflect on the past allows for this more in-depth and even a more emotional filled plot. It also in some way shows the development of characters. I am really intrigued to see where this book goes because it is unique in nature. The whales are a civilisation and they are also innovative, requiring a little leap of faith. Thank you so much for Pan Macmillan South Africa for providing me with a sample of this book! I can't wait to read the rest of it!

Yours in Reading,
Melleny
