A teen rockstar has to navigate family, love, coming out, and life in the spotlight after being labeled the latest celebrity trainwreck in Jen Wilde’s quirky and utterly relatable novel.
As a rock star drummer in the hit band The Brightsiders, Emmy King’s life should be perfect. But there’s nothing the paparazzi love more than watching a celebrity crash and burn. When a night of partying lands Emmy in hospital and her girlfriend in jail, she’s branded the latest tabloid train wreck.
Luckily, Emmy has her friends and bandmates, including the super-swoonworthy Alfie, to help her pick up the pieces of her life. She knows hooking up with a band member is exactly the kind of trouble she should be avoiding, and yet Emmy and Alfie Just. Keep. Kissing.
Will the inevitable fallout turn her into a clickbait scandal (again)? Or will she find the strength to stand on her own?

Book Review:
Pre-reading Thoughts:

The moment I saw the tour for this book, I jumped at the chance. This is one of my highly anticipated releases of the year and I have my hands on an eARC. I need someone to hold me.

Thank you so much to Xpresso Blog Tours for providing me with a copy of this book to review. Just a small disclaimer for those who are reading this review. I have received this book for free. Please note that this does not affect my opinion in any way. All thoughts are my own.

Writing Thoughts:

I really enjoyed the writing. It carried the emotion when it needed to and it flowed really well. I loved the dialogue which was both emotive and light in certain scenes. The author describes the makeup and everything in general so well. I really need to read one of her non-contemporary books. The author also clearly knows how to pull her audience in from the first page.

Plot Thoughts:

I loved this plot. I liked how we got to see the LGBTQ++ community represented. It is often that we only get one or two characters who are not heteronormative. This book was interesting from the very first line about cheeseburgers. I really enjoyed reading this book. The representation is there but so is the meat of the story. Every scene pulls you in and is also well thought out.

Character Thoughts:

I love Emmy. She is a soft marshmallow and I just want to protect her from the world. Emmy grew stronger over the course of the book which allowed her not only to develop as a character but it also helped the story to grow. I loved how we got to see the good, the bad and the ugly in each person. We didn't always see this one side. Instead, we were given complicated characters.

Final Thoughts:

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It is definitely one of those that you should pick up, without a doubt. The writing was really good and flowed with the story. I loved the representation in this book and I also liked how this book was also much more than that. It was a story, both educational and fun.  The characters were complicated and we got to see the main character develop. Thank you so much to Xpresso Book Tours for providing me with a copy of this book.
