Goodreads Synopsis:
Imagine this. You’re ready to leave after a one-night stand, and you’re figuring out how to—shock horror—leave your number and ask him to be your fake boyfriend for your sister’s wedding this weekend. When he wakes up. Well, that happened to me. And over coffee and omelets, I found myself a date.
Which was how I ended up arriving at the wedding with a guy I knew nothing about. I didn’t know his last name, or how we met, or how long we’d been dating. I didn’t know where he grew up, what he’d majored in in college, or how many siblings he had. I sure as hell didn’t know he was Adam Winters, hotshot hockey player—and not only my father’s favorite player, but my little nephew’s freakin’ idol. Which means I’m in trouble. Big, big trouble. My mother is suspicious, my sister is bridezilla on crack, and my grandpa will tell anyone who’ll listen about his time in Amsterdam’s Red Light District. Four days. I have to keep this up for four days, and then Adam and I can return to our regular lives, where we don’t have sex whenever we’re alone and my family aren’t interrogating him over his intentions with me.
At least, that’s the plan. And we all know what happens to those.
Book Review:
Pre-reading Thoughts:
I read the synopsis of this book a while ago when I was in this crazy mood for romance books and this just grabbed my attention. I am expecting all the feels to come to the table and I can't wait to jump into this!
Thank you so much to Social Butterfly PR for providing me with a copy of this book! Just a small disclaimer for those reading this review. I have received this book for free. Please note that this does not affect my opinion in any way. All thoughts are my own.
Writing Thoughts:
The writing was really good. Hart is clearly a practised writer. She knew how to pull us in with the correct mixture of emotions and humour. I really enjoyed the dialogue that flowed quite naturally. The pacing was also really well done, making a 300-page book fly by at the correct speed. Reflecting on the whole book now, there wasn't a lot of detail but it wasn't something that I felt this book needed more of.
Plot Thoughts:
The plot was beyond perfect. As a reader, you are pulling in front the very first line and you don't come up for air until the book is finished. It was refreshing to see that the plot has some flesh to it. It lived up to the description of a romantic comedy as I swooned a lot but I also found myself laughing quite a bit. I really enjoyed the plot. It is a perfect mood booster and the perfect book to read in any kind of weather. It also makes you want more.
Character Thoughts:
Poppy's personality is pretty much sarcasm and awkward moments meshed together. It worked really well for her in most cases but I did find myself wanting an in-depth moment of vulnerability. We kind touch the surface of her vulnerability but we don't go much deeper than that. Poppy was also a very likeable character that really made this book incredible. Adam was honestly the cherry on top with this romance skills and overall great personality.
Final Thoughts:
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It is probably one of my favourite contemporaries of the year. It was everything that I ever wanted from a book in the genre. It made me swoon, laugh and wish for my very own Adam. The writings really good and honestly perfect. The plot just pulls you in from the beginning and all I can say is prepare for one hell of a ride. The characters were incredible, they are the kind that will stick with you for a little while. Thank you so much to Social Butterfly PR for providing me with a copy of this incredible book.
About the Author:
Emma Hart is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of over twenty novels and has been translated into several different languages. She first put fingers to keys at the age of eighteen after her husband told her she read too much and should write her own.
Four years later, she's still figuring out what he meant when he said she 'read too much.'
She prides herself on writing smart smut that's filled with dry wit, snappy, sarcastic comebacks, but lots of heart... And sex. Sometimes, she kills people. (Disclaimer: In books. But if you bug her, she'll use your name for the victims.)
You can find her online at www.emmahart.org, www.facebook.com/emmahartbooks, or join her reader group at http://bit.ly/EmmaHartsHartbreakers.
