Goodreads Synopsis:

It's not every day you wake up to a stranger getting into your bed.
Only, he isn't a stranger at all, he's my best friend's hot older brother…and apparently my new roommate.Having him in my space, driving me crazy, isn't a problem at all. Nope. All I need to do is keep control of the situation…
But that's easier said than done.
Shawn Lassiter is the kind of distraction I don't need.
First he accidentally gets into my bed, half-naked, the night before my first day at my new job.
Hello, muscles and tattoos!
Then he's there, in nothing but a towel, making me coffee in the morning.
It's more than any girl can resist. Right?
But Shawn is off-limits, even if his eyes are saying differently.
Years ago, back when I still had my crush, he destroyed friendships with his reckless playboy antics.
There's no way I'm touching those perfectly formed abs now. I don't care how nice and responsible he's acting.
I don't want a boyfriend anyway. That's what my trusty vibrator is for.
I'm the smart girl—the glasses-wearing, book-reading workaholic. I can totally do this.
After all, it's only for two and a half months.
I'll be on my best behavior...even if Shawn isn't.

Book Review:
Pre-reading Thoughts:

Starting the year off with romances is one of my favourite things to do. Not only does it get me into the swing of reading but it also makes for some light and exciting books.

Thank you so much to Xpresso Book Tours for providing me with a copy of this book. Just a small disclaimer for those reading this review, I have received this book for free. Please note that this does not affect my opinion in any way. All thoughts are my own.

Writing Thoughts:

The writing is quite easy to get into because it is not overcrowded with descriptions. The writing also contains the right amount of humour and smut that a romance book needs. The humour pulls you in from the first page and this sense of inevitability makes its way into the book. The dialogue was not as potent and catchy as I wanted it to be but it still pulled you in and made you feel as if it was realistic.

Plot Thoughts:

I like how the book started off with a small problem. I always feel as though having to find a solution within the first couple of pages works well with a romance book. I really enjoyed how we had this awkward first encounter with the two main characters and that the tension had a starting point. I love how the author puts a focus on developing the relationship between the two through small tangibles moments.

Character Thoughts:

I loved that we could see how much of a workaholic Jessie was but I didn't really feel her passion for books themselves come through. Shawn was a simple and straightforward character because he aspired to be better than his past self, he wanted to work towards improving himself and whilst those actions seemed to be in the forefront but not exactly predominant.

Final Thoughts:

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It was the perfect mix of angst, tension, smuttiness and general character development. I loved how the author played with stereotypes. The writing pulled you in and put a large focus on the dialogue between the two main characters. The plot felt clear and definitely kept me entertained. I am really intrigued to see where the series will go and how it will continue. Please be advised that this book is not for younger readers. Thank you so much to Xpresso Book Tours for providing me with a copy of this book.

Author Information:

Rebecca Brooks lives in New York City in an apartment filled with books. She received a PhD in English but decided it was more fun to write books than write about them. She has backpacked alone through India and Brazil, traveled by cargo boat down the Amazon River, climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro, explored ice caves in Peru, trekked to the source of the Ganges, and sunbathed in Burma, but she always likes coming home to a cold beer and her hot husband in the Bronx. Her books are about independent women who leave their old lives behind to try something new–and find the passion, excitement and purpose they didn’t know they’d been missing.
