Emory Fae enjoys leading a quiet, normal life. That is until two mysterious, and handsome soldiers show up at her apartment, and the life she knew is instantly whisked away. Memphis Carter and Brokk Foster come from the magical and war ridden world of Kiero, and upon Emory's arrival she will discover she is the long lost heir to the Royal Line and is thrown into the Black Dawn Rebellion with a dynamic role to ignite the rebels and reclaim her throne.

With both men being darkly woven in her past Emory uncovers hidden secrets, a power held long dormant, and will soon realize there are worse things than supernatural humans, love, loss, betrayal, and a Mad King.

Some things are better left in the shadows.

Book Review:
Pre-reading Thoughts:

Okay. Let's just say, that I am ready! After reading the synopsis about a gazillion times and maybe signing up to more than one opportunity and requesting this books so that I can actually read. I am ready. Let's also just say that I love past me for signing up for both the review opportunity and the blog tour just to ensure that I got a place in at least one of them. Fortunately, I have a place on both which I am super grateful for. I love the sound of this book and I am just ready to be sucked into this world. I have hopes for this book and I just can't wait.

Thank you so so much to both Xpresso Blog Tours  and  Mallory McCartney for this opportunity. I am extremely grateful. Thank you for the copy of the book! Just a quick thing to note; I have received this book at no costs of my own in exchange for an honest review. With that being said, please note that in no way has receiving this book affected my opinions. All thoughts are my own.

Writing Thoughts:

The writing in the books was simple and not too descriptive. However there are moments where the author went into detail on things that I felt added to the plot. She tended not to focus too much on places where the characters weren't going to spend a lot of time. I enjoyed the writing because there tended to be a lot more dialogue than anything else and in the case of how I felt during this book, the dialogue was just great

Plot Thoughts:

The concept of this book is an amazing one. I loved reading about the world and experiencing it. I did think that the book could have been slowed down a little bit and fleshed out a bit more but other than that I loved the storyline. I feel like this series has a lot of potential going forward. I enjoyed how unique the concept of powers was in this book. You could see that the author was trying so hard to stray away from what you would find in any typical fantasy book with powers.

Character Thoughts:

Personally, I really enjoyed the characters. I thought they were just a little underdeveloped but with how the book ended, I can see that the author has a lot of room to play with.

Final Thoughts:

Overall, I really really enjoyed this book and found myself flying through it. There was definitely a hiccup or two but I think that it will be resolved in the prequel as well as the sequel that is coming out  middle of this year and the start of next year respectively. I am excited to see how the author plays with the story and the characters. I am definitely hoping that the next few books are a little bit more fleshed out just so that I can enjoy the world a bit more.

Thank you so much Mallory and Xpresso Book Tours for this opportunity! I absolutely enjoyed myself and can't wait for more!

Yours in Reading,

Melleny
