Goodreads Synopsis:

Rule #1 – Never fall for a summer boy.

Fresh out of high school, Babe Vogel should be thrilled to have the whole summer at her fingertips. She loves living in her lighthouse home in the sleepy Maine beach town of Oar’s Rest and being a barista at the Busy Bean, but she’s totally freaking out about how her life will change when her two best friends go to college in the fall. And when a reckless kiss causes all three of them to break up, she may lose them a lot sooner. On top of that, her ex-girlfriend is back in town, bringing with her a slew of memories, both good and bad.

And then there’s Levi Keller, the cute artist who’s spending all his free time at the coffee shop where she works. Levi’s from out of town, and even though Babe knows better than to fall for a tourist who will leave when summer ends, she can’t stop herself from wanting to know him. Can Babe keep her distance, or will she break the one rule she’s always had – to never fall for a summer boy?

Book Review:
Pre-reading Thoughts:

I am in such a huge contemporary mood right now and this book fits in perfectly. I cannot wait to jump into this little romance, especially since I have heard really good things about it!

Thank you so much to Xpresso Tour for providing me with a copy of this book. Just a quick disclaimer for everyone reading this review, I have received this book for free. Please note that this does no

Writing Thoughts:

The writing pulls the reader in with atmospheric details and emotion-inducing dialogue. The descriptions help to paint an amazing picture of the Oars Rest that makes the reader wish that they could be there too. The golden colours of summer definitely make their way off of the page. The dialogue was engaging and emotional. There, however, were times where I felt as if the conversations between Babe and Levi were recycled quite a few times in the beginning.

Plot Thoughts:

The plot was full of exciting adventures and diverse situations. I loved how our main character had a lot of interaction with other characters outside of the love interest. I also loved how we got to experience Oars Rest with Levi but it also only made me want to visit the place even more. The plot is not only enticing but it keeps you on the edge of your seat from page one.

Character Thoughts:

I loved Babe. She was accessible and inspiring. Her ambitions made this book relatable for me but her character interactions made her realistic. Babe has to deal with so many situations that call for tough decisions and ways in which she can fix her mistakes. The other characters were great but on the odd occasion, they required other characters to remain sustainable.

Final Thoughts:

Overall, this book blew me away. It was an amazing read and it is definitely one of my favourites of the year. With the writing paints every scene in the hues of summer and the plot pulling me further and further into the book, it was impossible to put down. I definitely recommend this for anyone who wants a book that they cannot put down and a book that will fly by. Thank you so much to Xpresso Tours for providing me with a copy of this book!

Author Information

Lillie Vale, upon discovering she could not be one of Santa’s elves or attend Hogwarts, decided to become a writer to create a little magic of her own. Enjoying the romantic and eerie in equal measure, she’s probably always writing a book where the main characters kiss or kill. Born in Mumbai, she has lived in many U.S. states, and now resides in an Indiana college town where the corn whispers and no one has a clue that she is actually the long-lost caps lock queen. She can be reached on Twitter @LillieLabyrinth and Instagram @labyrinthspine. Small Town Hearts is her debut novel.

Yours in Reading,
Melleny
